Help with Shifter Console Trim Plate Repair kit!
Hey folks,
I just bought this 68-76 Shifter Console Trim Plate Repair Kit and after reading the instructions -- I have no idea what they are talking about!
Can somebody that's done this give me some idea?
The instructions say:
1. Attach j-clip to plate.
(where, there are 5 holes in each plate!)
2. Place each plate (letter side up) to designated corner.
Got that (FD = front driver...etc)
3.Spread hot melt glue evenly to each plate.
(I think I understand that one too!)
4.Then attach either the black oxide or chrome screws securely to the console along with the j-clips.
(I have no idea what this means!)
Thanks,
Tab

Fiddle with it. The repair brackets hot glue to the underside of the console to allow for new mounting tabs for the trim plate.

The j clip becomes the threads for each piece, positioned over the slot. On the kit I have, I had to trim the corners on a couple of the clips to get them to fit properly.
These are easier to install with the console out of the car.
Use an epoxy as opposed to a hot glue.

Yes, take the console out of the car. You'll figure it out with the console turned upside down.

I have figured it out and will post some pictures over the weekend.
Just FYI...
I used 2 part epoxy and then put a fiberglass mat over the tabs as well.
Thanks for the input...

Melting Slicks
i did this on mine but used the plastic weld instead of the hot glue. worked perfect and it's rock solid, couldn't be happier.

I know this is an OLD thread, but just a note. I ordered mine last week, it is incompatible as shipped for 68 because the metal brackets (FD & FP) on the front end of the console will not accommodate for the fitment of the lamp indicator bezel plastic that has a retaining nut. I called and notified the company and they said to just drill 2 holes. It would be nice if that was already done.
