It's my next work in progress. I'm going to rig up some cables to be able to have my Zune HD(like an Ipod only better) work as a radio and music player where the cigarette lighter goes.
I didn't want to change the stock head unit or spend $300+ on a replacement with an AUX input and i had all the parts here to get the ball rolling on this thing. I have a cheapo 300w amp, some 6x9's, and my Zune, just need a car charger and some time.
The zune will fit perfect in the bay if the sliding door is taken out and the sides shaved down a millimeter. Create a little tray that it'll fit in, run the wires in the console and call it good. While i'm doing all this i'll give the dash a good cleaning and polish it up a bit and the two should blend together quite nicely. Thoughts? Ideas?

I dunno. Wouldn't it be easier to just set it on the passengers seat? But then again, I modified my car back when I was 18 to have a tapper on the dash (no kidding). So, I guess to each is own.
I also use my Zune HD in the car. However I didn't mind replacing that ****ty stock receiver with a retrosound one that looks like a "stockish" one but has all modern parts/features. It comes with an auxillery extension box thingy that has a usb port, aux, SD card slot, and maybe something else...basically, anything will hook up to it. I attached the little black box to the passenger side of the shift console, back towards the dash. I love it.

In theory I shouldn't have to really modify a whole lot. The darn thing almost fits in there by itself. I just have to widen the plastic a little bit, drop the ash tray, and see about taking that sliding door out. But If i can keep the sliding door and fit the thing in there I'll attempt that route.
sounds like a great idea to me. I did much teh same with my 78 and an ipod, though I did spend the coin for the ipod ready stereo head with bluetooth. I also used the ashtray as the likely location for the dock.
On my '64, I mounted a 4-channel power amp under the passenger seat. This is fed by the stock radio, but also includes an "interface" 3.5mm jack with a volume control that I can plug my MP3 player into mounted at the forward inside edge under the passenger seat.
When I plug in the MP3 player, it automatically kicks out the radio. I've also added a wire to the radio's on switch to both bring up my power antenna and turn on the amp under the seat. I can easily reach this from the driver's seat.

Just keep all the parts you remove because in a couple years we'll all be using Android phones and people will be wondering what ever happened to that Steve Jobs guy...
