I have a neighbor that has two classic cars. I stopped to talk to him to ask why he stopped driving the one. He told me he had the motor rebuilt and installed by a friend of a friend who is a "professional". Now it has difficulty starting and no power. It barely makes it up the incline to his driveway.
When he called the guy who did the work he was told that there was nothing wrong with the work he did, The problem was he could not set the timing correctly because the motor had a "lazy" distributor. He also said to bring it to a distributor expert.
Is a lazy distributor a term that is real and I just never heard of it?
I looked at the old distributors I have in the garage but they all seem to just lay there so I think they might lazy also.
So a more belivable excuse would have been - You have a retarded distributor.
I don't think is the distributor at all, I will show him how to degree the cam. I am not a 'Professional' so I will show him and let him do it himself.
A lazy distributor usually means that it has a slow mechanical advance curve, many mid-late 70s engines had these straight from the factory which is when I first heard the term.
Wouldn't explain the engine being that far down on power though. I bet there's more to the story than what your neighbour has stated.

Jegs $130.00 Street fire Distributor best money I ever spent. the Tach does bounce A little now but the pick up is 10% better.
Easy to put in 1 hr started right up.
My girlfriend could have done it.
My first thought, but even without degreeing it, I thought they go in only one way and then you are close. I wouldnt be surprised if the pushrods were the wrong length as well as the cam being in wrong.
Maybe the linkage in the carb slipped too.
He should ship it to my guy, he was on 'Pinks All-out' and now my tires break loose even when rolling at 15 mph.
