Default 71 A/C Help

I have a 71 with the original A/C compressor that was not working when first purchased. Told by previous owner of 33 years that he never used the A/C. Compressor engages, but does not blow cold air. Originally, the fan motor did not run so I replaced the relay and it now works. Before I start searching for a qualified mechanic for the 71, I wanted to see if there was some diagnostics I could preform myself before spending a fortune.

Any help is appreciated.

My advice would be to take the car to the qualified auto AC shop of your choice and let them R&R the system. They will be able to tell you the condition of the system quickly and with expertise. Could be something as simple as needing a squirt of R12.

With my Taurus I successfully used the Stop Leak and Refrigerant w/ dye from envirosafe. You could talk to their tech support and ask about a procedure to do this. I think I spent only about $75 to fix my Taurus. Their Refrigerant is not R-12 but is supposed to mix fine. If it really bother you, you could remove it once you got the system working, then refill with R-12.
