Hello all, I'm getting ready to purchase paint and I'm wondering how much will I need to paint the whole car? Don't know if it matters, but this is my 1st paint job.
Buy 2 gallons and mix them, so it is all the same color.
That way you have enough to re-paint a panel, if something bad happens during painting or after.

I'm looking to buy the Summit Racing Acrylic Urethane Paint and planning on a two tone paint job. The paint is mixed 4:1 so you end up with 5 quarts from a gallon. So it looks like a gallon of each color with a gallon of clear so do the job.
IMO 2 gallons is overkill unless you plan to paint it twice. When you look at the price of base, you're going to be suprised at how expensive it can be. Some Reds are easily $100 a quart depending on what you buy! There isn't THAT much surface area on a corvette, especially if you have a convertible or a 1980 on up car with the big back window. It should take about 2 to 2 1/2 quarts to paint your car.
Generally, the price to buy a whole gallon and the price to buy 3 quarts is a couple dollars difference. So it usually makes more sense to buy a gallon, then you'll have enough left over for down the road repairs should you need it. If you buy 2 gallons, I guarantee you'll have a gallon ($400) sitting under your bench for years that you could have bought a bead blaster or put into a better air compressor, etc.
PO (or someone before) painted my 68, as part of the sale I got about a pint of paint in a 1 gallon can.
I painted a MGB that I'm still restoring, first time I've painted a body off restoration. I painted the bottom, engine compartment, trunk compartment, interior and exterior and I still have a little paint left.
I had my 71 Coupe repainted about 6 months ago and I bought a gallon of base coat ( almost $450 for PPG in War Bonnett Yellow)
I have about 2 quarts left over which should more than cover any needed repairs later on.
BB/CC... I bought a Gallon of base, and had enought for two touch up's. Bought a gallon of CC, shot 3 coats, worked that down with 800/1000 then shot another 3 coats Muddy
