Default Engine buildup advice

In the planning stages of updating weezer in my '79. I was thinking of building an L46 clone. The old school stock look is what I'm after. Better bang for the buck would probably be just dropping in a ZZ4, but I want to keep the car as original looking as possible. 325-350 hp is my target (195 now is killing me). pros and cons please...thanks

IIRC an L46 is pretty much an L82 w/11:1 compression. Are you sure you want to press the CR that high with iron heads and that cam on today's gas?

Good point, the higher tech motors require less compression, due to better breathing. I want to be able to drive her on pump gas. I'm 48, had the car since '86. I'm really looking for a good solid driver. I just love the stock look of the corporate blue classic small block in there.
