I am working on putting the dash, console and hearter control back together. The question is this: I have one connector wih two prongs with 3 pink and 1 brown the brown wire appears to have been cut, connector appears to connect to the heater switch. Is this a proper connection?
There are two separate orange leads one has been cut and the other has a single connector. Where would these go?
There is an L connector in the switch but no L connector with two prongs in the harnace. what plugs to it?
There are two, two prong connectors on the heater switch one horiaontal one vertical. What plugs to those?
Sure hope this makes sense to someone.....really need help.
Does your car have A/C? If so you will need a A/C diagram. Currently I am in the same stages of repairing my A/C wiring in my 71 .One of the previous owners cut the connectors off the fan switch and heater A/C switch and it has taken a little research to repair without going as far as replacing the whole A/C harness. I do see some similarities in the wiring that you are describing and my 71 but hate to comment without really knowing. Can you get a photo?

Some really good wiring diagrams here!
Cheers

ARE YOU JOKING ???
The diagrams are the worst I've seen.
Just for fun I went to the vacuum repair , and guess what I saw , A TOTALLY WRONG VACUUM DIAGRAM.

I agree photo's in this case are needed.
If I remember right the heater system wiring came in the standard harness and when a car had AC the AC harness was an add on to the standard. That might explain some cut off or tucked away connectors.( like the orange verses the purple blower wire)
If this is wrong hopefully someone will correct me.
Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM has diagrams of the dash installation and a couple of pages of the various wiring hook ups. ditto for the heat/defronst controls and the console wiring.
thanks to everyone so much for posts, comments and suggestions! I am going to take pics this am and get them posted. The car does have AC. I have Ecklers assembly manual, vacuum diagram and laminated wiring diagram from Ecklers. Going nuts here. I will get pics posted.
I do not think there is a great deal of difference from a 71 to a 73 so here is what I got from memory from my 71 see if any of it makes sense. The A/C does have a separate wiring harness and the diagram for it in AIM is in the A/C option portion. The horizontal switch on the side of the climate control is the Compressor Switch I believe that a brown wire connects it to the fuse panel through the dash harness. The second prong on the compressor switch has two wires from it one connects to the other switch which is the control panel blower switch (referred by you as the vertical switch) the other to the fan speed switch. The vertical switch’s other prong has a two wires connected to it. One gray and one tan. The gray goes to the fan speed switch the tan to blocking relay on the heater box. I believe Rodger is correct the orange goes to the cigar lighter, clock or possibly the courtesy light (my bet is the cigar lighter) I believe they all connect to the same point in the dash harness and are not part of the A/C harness.
The only pink wires on the A/C harness I know about are the ones that go to the Anti- dieseling relay and blocking relay on the heater box one of those connects to the dash harness I think with the brown wire that runs to the fuse box (this maybe one of the differences from a 71 to a73) and to add to the confusion there is a orange wire that connects to the anti Dieseling relay as well.
Hope this helps some to piece the puzzle together. Post the photos and we can compare notes.

Just had a proper look, and you're right. Although I did find a couple of things useful.
