Default Do I have stock mufflers?

Hi I am a new member and new owner of a '77 L82. This is also my first vette. The previous owner put true dual exhausts on the car but claimed to use the stock mufflers. The car has a nice sound, but not what I'm looking for...I want a deep 'muscle car' rumble (no fart cans!) and was looking at dynomax super turbo's or magnaflows. Nothing too loud as I like my neighbors and want it to stay that way.

However, I am not sure I actually have stock mufflers and I dont want to waste my money to get something less aggressive. There is not any branding or labeling on the mufflers, the right rear has 'HOM2286' stamped on it. Both mufflers are 16" long, 9" wide, 7" high in an oval shape (these are outside dimensions)....Does this sound like the size of a '77 stock muffler???

Could these be a generic auto shop brand? The tubing coming in seems to be 2 1/4" OD, I guess thats 2" ID? I don't know if its a straight through design, both inlet and outlet are offset, not centered.

I can take a few pics, they are nothing special, no stainless, no chrome, just look like run-of-the-mill mufflers. Hope that wasn't too confusing; any suggestions, pointers, information are appreciated. I am looking for a starting point.

Those dimensions are the approx. size of what I have on my car now. Exhaust is a Volunteer Vette 2 1/2 in. true duals system installed this year. Previous mufflers were small turbos and they were several inches shorter. Some of the guys are going with the chambered systems or high end systems with big name brand mufflers. My car is stock L82 and I did not want to go with a loud system. I am old however. Good luck. mike...

When I took my old mufflers off they looked like 1975 mufflers the Flowmaster 40s I put on sound good but I ve heard alot about the
Magna flows .Either way they will sound way better than stock.

The reason I ask is I see a lot of comparisons to stock mufflers, I know every car will sound different, but I wanted to know if what I am hearing now is stock, of something else.

For instance the Dynomax Super turbos are said to be a good choice, but only "a little" louder than stock. I dont want to move backwards and replace these mystery mufflers with a Dynomax model that is actually quieter.

If these do seem like stock, then I have a better baseline for what to put on. Im not even sure, what was stock exhaust pipe size ? 2 inch ? when people say they have a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, is that the pipe ID ? or OD .... guess I could use a crash course on Exhaust measurements

Magnaflow keeps coming up do they all mostly sound the same ? I see Advanced Auto has a ton of different models, is the only difference inlet size and position, or do magnaflows have different sounding models as well ?

Sorry for the dumb questions

i decided to be a bit more aggressive, and am running striaght pipes all the way back, with no mufflers that exit through monza "tips" that have resonators only built into them. they exit our the rear with dual tips on each side. if i remember correctly, i bought them from midamerica.
