Default '71 starting issues

Having issues starting my '71 LT-1. The car turns over but won't start. When i turn the key back into the off position after letting it turn for a while sometimes i can get it to catch and the car will start....it's hit or miss though. The battery is brand new so i know that isn't the issue. I believe the car has the original ignition coil and TI amp is there but appears to be not hooked up. Ideas?

Paul

You need a wiring diagram to determine whether you need a ballast resistor or there is a good built in resistance wire. There is the start circuit and the run circuit. It sounds like the start circuit isn't good. Also, a TI coil may not be best for a points-type ignition system, which is what it sounds like you have now.

Check the R terminal on your starter solenoid. I believe that wire should be going to the + terminal on your coil. The LT1 wiring may be different with the transisterized ignition though.
