I picked up hood insulation for my 1976 Corvette this weekend. The car hasn't had any on since I have owned it. Which way is forward? Which surface should be against the hood? The smooth side or the opposite side?
The smooth isde goes against the hood, the fiber is the side you see when it's installed on the car.
If you notice the cut outs of the insulation at the top are different from the left side to right. Will only fit one way.
What I did was to recut the top so I had the black side showing out. I think it looks much cleaner. You lose a few inches of the insulation but the piece I got was longer than the original. I get asked a lot about where I got the black insulation
I just got new insulation, the cuts at the top don't seem to match at all to what I have on there now. It is also over a foot longer, am I supposed to trim all of this off, or is what I have on there now too short? I have a '78 btw.
And I'm guessing there is no problem with putting the black side out?
The 78 (and 79) hood insullation pad was shorter than the 76-77 pad. Some companies sell both length pads while others just sell the longer 76-77 as a 76-79 and you have to cut it if you want it to be the correct size for your 78. The 76-77 pad was held in place by 8 pins, the 78-79 uses 6.
