Default 1975 Radio problem...

Just bought my 75 bright blue convertible and the previous owner said the radio always worked but when he replaced the battery this spring he said the clock and radio quit working....I recently turned on the ignition not the engine and could barely hear the radio playing...Its very faint. Any ideas/ Radio need replaced or sumthing else??? Thanks Mark

Unplug your speakers and run a continuity check on each one with an ohm meter. They undoubtedly have open voice coils - a common problem with C3's through 76. You are hearing the radio itself from the slightly loose lamination's of the loading coil which was moved to the inside of the radio after 1972.

Correct, high quality replacements (8-10 ohms 4X6") can be found here: http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm

Ok, I'll borrow an ohm meter and check them, so you think I need replacement speakers???

Maybe... the ohm meter never lies (well almost never). It will be interesting to hear your findings.
