Default 75 electrical question

My 75 convertible is a great running car, and I have never had problems. (All original) However -- when the car reaches 3400, the tachometer just won't go any further, in fact, it actually starts bounding backwards. At 70 mph, the car is running right at 7400 or 7500 rpm, I really don't know because at that point it won't go further. In fact, I notice that if I drive 70 for 20 or 30 minutes, it will seem to "cough" for only a fraction of a second.....it feels electrical to me and not fuel.
Does anyone have an idea?????
Thanks Jack

Circuit board is bad. These have a tendency to burn out. I finally replaced mine this year.
