Hi,

I have a 512 block with a date of J 31 9, would this be a very
late 1969 427 or early 1970 454?

Thx.

If nothing is stamped on the front pad, then it would be whatever crank and rods you use in it. The 512 was relieved for more clearance for the 454 stroke, but I believe the bore was the same.

J 31 9 is a casting date: October 31, 1969, Halloween. If it's a Corvette block, it would be a 427 and probably slated for 1969 model year production which ran through the middle of December, 1969 due to the strike.

Check the pad on the block for the engine code and VIN derivative stampings.
