I have a 1972 L-40 350 that has been bored 40 over and has a mild Comp cam and TRW innerards (done in the '90's).I bought her in 2008.
She was running a little rich and and looking at the points and plugs it was time to make a change. She has always ran great with no issues.
I installed new Accel points and condenser and new Bosch Platinum Plus spark plugs.
The plugs were pre-gapped - I checked them all at .035 per spec.
The dwell is set at 30
I have set the advance between 4º and 12º and although it runs seemly OK with the advance at 8º & 12º - it won't accelerate smoothly.
It breaks up under hard acceleration above a certain RPM.
I double checked that I had the correct plugs, points, and condenser and I do.
I didn't check the dwell before I started but the advance was at 12º.
I don't think this is Your problem but I have never had any luck with the bosch platinums on these motors. They start off fine and then soon after run like crap. I only use NGK's now.
Found problem - I pulled vacuum line off TCS when setting timing and PO had plugged the second outlet on the back of the switch. I inadvertently eliminated his plug, so I had a vacuum leak.
