Has anyone dropped a ZZ4 350 like the one listed below in a C3? If so what extra things besides the motor am I going to need to buy? I already am planning on a Keisler (also linked below) transmission upgrade, the complete kit.
Although I dont have the zz4 engine, I think it is a popular engine option. Be patient, somebody will chime in. You can also do a thread search. Good luck
Can't say how easy it will be but I've just made a deal to do exactly this swap. I'll be posting a thread about it once I get started but I don't think it will be too hard to do..... Famous last words
The zz4 is a swap many have done. the serpentine system on that particular crate i think will be problem since it is based on a long water pump and has all the assessories mounted in front of the engine as opposed to the side of the engine. that the only problem though.
The kiesler is also a known commodity with many users here as well should be a fun ride
The base engine is a bolt-in. May be some issues with manual transmission clutch pivot, not sure. The serpentine setup looks like F-body. If so it should go in. There are threads on this serpentine swap out there. This is an HEI distributor so a bolt-in on a 75-82. Short a/c compressor so bolt-in on 76L-82, assuming it is about the same place. If that is a CS130 alternator, I would dump it and convert to a CS144.
I put the regular ZZ4 in my car about 5 years ago. For the ZZ4 to work in a C3 you have to change a few items depending on the year. First, if you are using a manual trans you will need a new flywheel. The ZZ4 comes with a flex plate so there are no issues with an auto, but for an old Muncie car you need the one piece rear main seal flywheel. Second, is the water pump issue. The corvette uses a short water pump so the long one needs to go. Based on the link you sent that would mean the whole serpentine system as well needs to go. I used a short stage 2 pump from Stewart. The third item will be the temperature sender location. The stock block uses a 1/2 inch sender. The ZZ4 only has one location tapped for that and it is by the thermostat. If you want to use the temp location in the head you need and adapter or buy a 3/8 inch sender and try to make it work. The only other real issue is if you had a points distributor and are using the HEI with the engine. You will need an aftermarket tach, or a tach conversion to make it work. Other than those items it pretty much bolts in.
