There have been many posts about chinese repro and aftermarket parts on the Forum. Well I had to get a parking light for someone's 2001 Corvette this week, so I called my dealer and ordered one. I picked it up this afternoon. I've gotten GM parts in boxes marked made in USA, Canada, Mexico and even Korea in the past, but this is the first GM part that I've gotten that was made in China!
I wonder how much it costs GM to produce this $55.92 lamp in China and how many US jobs do you think the bailed out Goverment Motors, saved by producing it in China?
It's disgusting Glenn. I'm sure you've seen the change over the years, as a vendor. I bought a heater core a couple of weeks ago from Auto Zone. I was pleasantly surprised that it was NOT made in China. No - Made in Korea! LOL What's the difference?! On the other side of the factory they're probably cranking out bootleg Nike sneaks.
I almost expect replacement parking lamps to be made in china or other far east countries.
But buying a replacement '65 Kelsey-Hayes alloy knock-off wheel with CHINA cast into the inner part of the wheel in 1" high letters takes the cake. Thanks Willcox and Corvette America!

can you please turn around?? I want to see who is holding the gun to your head forcing you to buy repop Chinese knockoffs.....or maybe like a certain vendor who shall remain nameless in TX they might re-package Chinese made parts into made in America boxes...

Usually we don't know where it's made when we order it...and often it's the only way to get a must-have part...
Just more proof the government needs to get the hell out of the way. Let people start building and inventing again. That's how we became the world leader in every aspect (very little government).
Salaries and benefits. We pay them here; they don't pay them there. You have a part you want to manufacture and sell. You determine it will cost you $80 to produce it in the US of A; $7 overseas.
I work in the auto industry and have for 8+ years. These companies are going to do whatever they can to cut costs so they can keep their head above water. Sadly, we're going to have to get used to it...at least until things get better, then there may be some hope that they'll start bringing manufacturing back here. I know a lot of people look at this as what jobs are these countries robbing us of, but what about the jobs they're saving? If GM and other companies couldn't cut their costs, they wouldn't be able to be competitive and they'd go out of business. Then we're talking serious unemployment numbers. Don't take this as I'm defending their actions because I hate these crappy reproductions as much as the next person, just trying to show the other side.
91 five oh no here. I come from a Ford family and am the only GM guy, but anything American with RWD and V8 is cool.
My mom bought a 93 Ford Aspire (Made in Korea by KIA) new and only parked it last year when the engine gave out with 100+K miles. So I can't put them down TOO much...just not for me.
People have to be very careful when they make this claim. Many American company cars are not made in America. My Ford Explorer was made in Mexico, my buddies F body camaro was made in Canada.

No brainer.
Rein in unions=problem solved.
This alone would stimulate more American manufacturing and trade deficit reductions than anything else.
That said, I DO flip over a package whenever I'm at the store to see where it's made. Just bough a 9V battery for a smoke detector the other day. Paid about $1.50 more for a Duracell coppertop than any of the others displayed because it was the only one made here.
