HC suffix code for 65-68 327 250 or 275hp engines for passenger autos. Not a Corvette block.

...7y192078...
VIN derivitive of the vehicle the engine was originally installed in. I'm guessing 7 for 1967, Y for the plant code, and 192078 for the consecutive unit number.

My reference does not list a Y as a plant code. Are you sure it's a Y?

6 almost certainly 1966.

Jives since the block had to be cast before it could be machined and assembled.

This 327 may be out of a Chevy II/Nova.........."Y" was the Wilmington, Delaware assembly plant for these cars....

Although I'm running a 502 now, I loved my 327 in my last 68. It was the original motor but it was bored .60 over and was a fun motor for that car!!!!

a july 23rd 1966 motor engine block casting date would probably work better for a early 67 vs a late 66 car.. if they started building the 67 model year in august/september 66
Y = chevy passenger car biscayne, belair, impalla or caprice and the HC is a 327/275 with a powerglide, again on a big chevy.
according to my book, it is a one year only casting.. not really a nothing motor..
