Default Hood alignment on 72

The drivers side front of the hood on my 72 is higher than the body. But toward the back of the hood it is even. The passenger side is fine. Also the gap is wider on the drivers side as well but that's less of a concern and I understand how to fix that. In reading other post on here it sounds like I may actually have to raise the body to get it even with the hood? I'm hoping there is an easier way. Any ideas.

TIA

Nice looking car............ if you can seperate the hood surround from the inner fenders that would be great but it may not work out that way...it didn't for me. usually when the surround is even with the hood you have enough room under there to seperate the 2 pieces. but when the hood is higher than the surround there isn't much room to get in there and seperate them. I say this because from the looks of your pic in the avitar your car is complete with no paint work to be done?? but if you were redoing the paint ..........then you could definitely seperate the bonds without fear of wrecking the paint

Here's mine.I painted it back to the original SCG....

and here's how we took care of my hood fitment.....scroll down to post #107

Thanks for the reply hammadown. Yea I don't plan to paint the car anytime soon so whatever I do needs to not damage the paint. I'll try to take a look at the area you are refering too. I guess I was hoping someone had a simple fix I was not aware of yet to lower the hood.

I have seen your thread before on the return to SCG, your car looks great. What a cool color...

Hey Cajun

I'm not sure what the height difference is (am I missing a pic link?) but you may be able to weasel it by pushing your header support bar up a bit. I'm thinking there are probably a few ways to try and do that. At least maybe that may make it look a bit better.

Sorry I should have posted pictures when I started the thread. Here are some pictures.

When I took the pictures i noticed the middle of the hood is the highest followed by the front so that probably makes things even more complicated.

Thanks

adding shims to the rear most hinge bolt will drop the front of the hood. in other words, raising the back of the bottom hinge will cause the front of the hinge to be lower.

good luck!

Are there any shims under the hinge on that side? Look at both the hood side & radiator support side. If there are any remove them one at a time. If there are none you can try adjusting the header bar support on that side, but it's probably not an easy fix.

If there are shims on the fender skirt under the left hood hinge, take them out one at a time and recheck hood fit. Removing shims will lower the height of the corner of the hood.

You should find a small bracket reinforcement on the front of each fender skirt connecting to the end of the headlight bar
.

Take a look at the bracket on the left skirt. There is wiggle room to raise the corner of the hood surround panel.
