Default Another Door Latch Problem

The driver’s door on my ’71 will not open completely. When either the outside or inside door handle is used, the door pops open about an inch but won’t open any further. I believe it is caught on the hook part of the latch where it goes around the striker. From the inside of the car I have tried to pry up the latch but it doesn’t want to move. Any thoughts are very much appreciated. Thanks Mike

Have you the trick of pushing down the metal tab with a flathead screwdriver? I think its the one closest to the door on the latch. Just press down on that tab from the inside and the door should pop open.

Thanks for the response. I did that and the door does pop open about an inch but then hangs up where the hook part of the latch contacts the striker and will not open any further. Thanks again

All I can think of to do is stick a screwdriver in there and press on anything and everything to see if you get a release. Or you could spray some lubricant all over the latch and see what that buys you. I ended up having to use a sawsall to cut the striker pin off because mine wouldn't open for anything.
