Default Bird cage metal..

I've just noticed that the top of the bird cage (section running across the top of the front screen) appears to be made from different gauge metals is this correct? One I measured at 1mm (underneath section) and the top made from stronger 2mm. I'm about to start re-building my '75.
Thanks.

Never noticed. Assume you mean the windshield header...
Is there a problem? Any rust?

Yes, mine's shot completely, in fact there's not much to work with. I can make the panel sections ok...just time and effort needed!

It would be easier to buy the parts.

I believe all windshield frame hardware is available for 73 thru 82.
Lower conrners included. The local Corvette shop I use prefers donor parts, tells me the reproductions are thinner and not as well formed as the originals. I heard there was an issue at one time with the top corners but thought this was resolved. Either way parts are available, much easier than fabricating unless you're just doing a patch.

I'm having the windshield header replaced on mine. Shop had a very clean donor piece. Metal was thin in the original due to rust. Fortunately the pillars and lower corners appear to be fine.

Yes, but only for 73 thru 82.

It appears they had 68 - 72 but dropped them. May have been problems with them?
