Truth is at work people that don't know me think at first I'm an artist.
Artist in the video game industry sense of the word, just meaning people that do graphic stuffs rather rather than programming.
The gap between artist and coders (the two dominant species) is significant and I'm praised if any for bridging it.
You're not car idiot either and you know you're better coder than me, I fret all the time in way too many different directions to really master anything.
As always, thanks for following.

How about this-
Your build is- superb, outstanding, exceptional, marvelous, wonderful, breathtaking, awe-inspiring, magnificent, amazing, stunning, staggering, imposing, stirring, impressive, mind-boggling, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, excellent, wondrous....NOT tube socks or toast!!!
I just got back from a 2000 mile trip in my 73 on the Hotrod Power Tour- five BIG car shows- about 5000 cars at each venue and I still look at your progress!!!
Keep it coming- as I haven't cut my hood yet!!!

Obviously, no pressure... just that if I screw up the paint you guys are going to shred me into tiny pieces of Bubba shame
Right now it's pretty intense at work, we are working of a title due to this September, so while I may have to give up a couple of Week ends this summer, past the release date it's gonna be pretty quiet. So maybe, if short of any other alternatives, I will take a one or two week leave, rent a booth and paint the damn car myself.

some mocking up tonight :
Not bad huh?
Well, I don't like it. It's cool, but too much egg-crate, the initial shape get buried under the square shapes.

Not a real fan of the egg crate look either. What about something like clear plexiglass? You could maybe get away with one support centered and if buffed out as clean as possible it might not be all that noticeable. maybe even concave the piece so fits into the fins with "C" or "V" shape the open side of the letter facing out?

I don't have the pic handy right now as I'm at work, but I did test that yesterday (several attempt to hide the support), and didn't even consider posting the resulting pic, but I will do that tonite. Long story short, it looked pretty fugly.
From what I've learned you have to shape the support like it's one long perpendicular beam running accross the vent. Otherwise, with the right angle, it look downright awful.
So far best option is what I've done in the picture, but much lower/deep into the vent. Maybe have the support below the grills, actually supporting them.
I will also post pic tonite when I try it.
I'm keeping plexiglass to aero features, and there might be some...
As always, thanks for participating.

Hey Denpo-
Why not add some gill material/mesh- will give the support and look better than the eggcrate idea-
As pictured- not a fan of that type of mesh- but you get the idea-

Is the pic from a C7? Anyhow you're hitting home there Richard, that's pretty much the look I'm after, tucking the support as far as possible, leaving the blades and the grill in the foreground.

I realize I didn't make myself clear enough, the piece of foamboard I've put behind the "support" fin are there to symbolize the honeycomb grill.

I didn't go that way because I would have lost the central beam (that's typical to LT1 hood scoop) that I plan use to route the cold air intake tube. Otherwise I would have jump the C7 vent wagon on a whim.
I've read it really helps the C7 aero, I'll have to check one day what they are doing under it, there must be some air channelling stuff there.

May not seem obvious to everyone, but I think it make a big differenc :
I lowered everything as far as I could.
I'm gonna go this way for the support.
The actual support will be thinner, and sharpened at the top.
I'm thinking about painting them darker (probably black) to make them disappear.
Now for the grill, I still have two options:
I can do as mocked up here, four little grills perpendicular to the vents.
(You'll note I made a some artistic efforts to symbolize the grills)
Or I can shave some of the bottom of the blades and install a single, horizontal piece of grill, like what Richard posted.
This configuration gonna take a little more time to mockup.

I was thinking, what if you made the bottom of the gills/blades thicker and tapered them to the top thickness? Double the thickness on the bottom and tapered to the current top thickness. Or maybe a thicker bead on the bottom edge would provide the stiffness/support you need. I think this will hide the support system.
Then tie the bottoms together with the mesh or a thin rod.

I do like the second version better....less egg crate-ish.

I did think about make the supports out of rod, that indeed would have been interesting, but that would raise other problems.
The support rod would have to be metallic and removable, so I would have to take care of the metal/painted fiberglass contact area. You know, like putting rubber grommets and such.
Making the whole thing as a single fiberglass piece saves me some work.
Yeah, I will probably make supports thicker at the bottom as you're suggesting.
Stay tuned, mockup time is over, tonight we're getting **** done.

No time tonight to do actual work, so I'm making myself lie and do one last mockup
This time with both sides
This look egg grate a certain angle, and it's growing on me, I'm set.
And you get to see the underside.
The actual part will go flush, and half of the cut will go in the blades, half in the support to get them intertwined.

I was expecting to post this update one week earlier, but with a side project that's been running for something like 8 months, you learn patience is the key.
The final version of the hollow taillights have been finally machined.
Counterintuitively the middle rings that show a faint taint of yellow is the white one, while the orange ones shows just as white as the other (red) rings.
Now I got to find out if my mounting method works, cut the back of the bumper, put the grill in the back and route a dedicated brake light wire from the brake pedal switch. No big deal.
My machinist really had a kick out of doing those, that was fun project. Too bad he had to move his entire shop in the middle of it.
Now they're done he's talking about how we could have made them much more outrageous, I'm sure we could but for the time being it's already a good accomplishment.
Unfortunately he hasn't been able to reproduce little stripes created by the tool shutter we got one the first item, so we removed it.
Stay tuned I've got some hood process update coming for ya.

That really worked out NICE.
What are you going w/ on the side lights? I had good luck w/ the COB LEDs for the turn and wire/strip LEDs for the parking.
I also had to do a dedicated brake light switch- running the sequential flashers- And while you are at it - I'm thinking you need to do it!!!
It has three output for each side- you can wire the two outside signals and it slows down the two flashing- or wire the side lights to the third output.
Wired backwards- but you get the idea!!!
The sides not sequential-hazards on for test

Thanks Richard!
Truth to be told I haven't really thought that much about the side markers. Or maybe I don't want to. I'm convincing myself I will find a way to recycle the existing one, because if I'd listen to myself I'd to some totally custom stuff, and get the car done in 2020.
Si I'm taking good note of what you did and will likely follow a similar way.
Since I have a dedicated orange flasher ring the red rings aren't used, so a sequential flash just don't apply.
