68 ignition switch two part numbers what is the difference ?
Part numbers are 1116697 and 1116702
This is 68 Impala related but both cars use the same switch and there is way more interest and knowledge in the Corvette circles, can anyone help ?
I think the differance is that the early and late switches are that the three locking tabs that hold the wiring pig tail to the switch are in a different place.
I have both switches and did not notice an outward difference other than the last three didgits of the part number cast on the part. I may of over looked it so I will check again Monday.
I do not know the part number, but the switch in my April built '68 has three connectors for the ignition harness and the provision for the light socket.
I have replaced the cylinder, but I'm fairly certain the switch is original.
After close inspection I see obvious differences in the casting. I took both switches apart looking for an internal difference but they are the same. I can't tell you howmany times I have handled these parts and never notice the external differences I feel a liitle silly now but I will post up photos when I get the time as it may help someone else.

Are you saying the 68 corvette used the same switch as the 68 Impala? That would be nice to know, as it seems most 68 corvette parts are only for 68 corvettes.
