From what I have noticed, there are a variety of parts both mechanical and trim that denote "early 1968" or "late 1968."
Does anybody have a basic rundown on the transition, and most importantly, does anybody know when the transition from "early" to "late" was made. Mine's a mid January model, which puts it close to mid-year, making the issue clear as mud for me.
There is no set date as to what is early or late. Most of the changes were running changes on the production line. Some may have vin # as to what changes had taken place by a certin vin date. Do a search as this topic has been covered.
"Early" and "late" usually refer to the dates of specific running changes made on the assembly line. As has been stated, the 68 models had their fair share of running changes.
Purchase the 1968 assembly instruction manual (AIM) and the NCRS Technical Information Guide. The AIM is helpful for drawing revision dates for some running changes; the NCRS Guide sometimes lists specific VINs or a range of VINs where changes were known to have been made.
