Default 68 dies when I pull the headlight switch.

If I rev it up it will not die. I always thought it was the vaccuum, but all that is leak free. Also will not crank with the **** on.

Any ideas.

Check your fusible links at the horn relay and see if of them stretch.

Are you sure your battery, alt, are good? It soulds like your having a voltage problem.

Might be the alt. The battery is a new red top. Problem was before that. Also heard a bearing squeak when I turned it on.

the alternator would not prevent restarting the car.. if you want to know if the alt is bad, go out start the car, and disconnect the battery, if it stays running your probably good. though, in general i would say, if you car is still starting after several starts, your alternator is probably fine. an overall voltage problem doesnt exactly sound right either.. maybe one of the wires is grounding out?? does it happen with "running lights"/halfway, or all lights/all the way out? what bearing is squeeking, where is the sound coming from? maybe the squeeking is arcing?
good luck!

Maybe the ignition is being starved. You could try something simple.
Make a little jumper and clip one end to the pos coil term and the other end to the pos post on alt , start the engine , turn headlights on . (Remove jumper to turn engine off.)
Does your car have one of those white ceramic ballast resistors mounted on the firewall ?

This sounds about right for my car. I have always had grounding issues with the dash.

It's funny that you can rev it up and the switch works. Once on the car works fine.

I think the bearing noise is the alt. also. Only makes the noise under load.
