I want to put in dual exhaust pipes. I already have new mufflers and tips. I need the pipes from the original exhaust manifolds to the muffler. I did find a hooker #16521 hkr system. But am not sure if this is what I need. Any help would be greatfull. Thanks.
I got a complete Volunteer Vette 2 1/2" system. It worked very well. I am sorry that I do not know where you can get just the pipes. Do your mufflers have any sort of piping on the inlet side? Our cars need a certain set up to clear the spare tire tub. mike...
I got 2.5 inch, aluminized pipes several years back from Mid America. I ordered pipes for a 74 (my car is a 77) to get the full duals, no cat system. You will also need a new bracket to support the 2 pipes where they pass thru the trans crossmember. Mid America has that too. Not cheap but it works well.

I saw that, and was thinking about it. But was unsure if the 74's would fit my 77. I know the frames are alike, but was worried somthing might not fit. Did it come with new exhaust manifold bolts? Or gasket/donut? Do our cars have a ceramic donut as a gasket? Thanks.
The 74 pipes definitely fit a 77. The pipe to manifold connections are fastened by 3 studs on the manifold and a flange on the pipes. Those studs will probably break off when you try to remove the nuts. I took off the manifolds and replaced the studs. Later I switched to headers and got rid of the manifolds. The original donut is not ceramic. I think the pipes came with a new donut, non ceramic also.
My system is also listed for a '74. My car has two holes in trans. crossmember yours should too. Ck. transmission tailshaft extension area and see if you still have the exhaust hanger. The only other hanger is at tailpipe. I got away from the cat. and Y pipe also. mike...
There are two pipe sizes available... I believe the L-88 system is shown in MDS's pics... a short length of 2 inch "lead" pipe at the manifolds which is joined to a 2.5 inch pipe from there back. L-48 cars had a straight 2 inch system all the way if memory serves.
take a look a the corvette central website under their exhaust system pages. they also have a wide variety of OEM type pipes and parts that will m ake the job eaier for you. they also are a supporting vendor here. just a suggestion, however if you decide to use them, call them and speak directly to someone who can tell you if they have the parts in stock or if they are on backorder so you will know what to expect as far as delivery.
I just changed my stock '79 to a dual system bought from Zip Corvette. Price was right and the pipes came with donuts and u-bolts.They have a crossmember bracket that works too and is half the price that Mid-America charges. I should have bought the 2 1/2" set because I wouldn't have needed adapters to use my '79 tail pipes and mufflers.
My mufflers are 2 1/2" also. In fact everything is 2 1/2" except from the exhaust manifold. It looks to be 2" then welded to 2 1/2". Andrew I will be waiting on your e-mail, thanks, Psychovette, I will look into that too. Thanks.
As for the mentioned stud breakage, probably best to get your hand's on an oxy/acetylene torch set to heat thing's up before wrenching, as these can be a real pain to repair later.
