remove the arms from the spindles and adjust them accordingly. Easy to remove with the wiper removal tool, spring puts a lot of tension on shaft. Shaft is splined so you can move wipers away a tooth at a time until clashing goes away.

Hi there, thanks for the info. I took of the upper wiper arm and although it is splined, it has a tongue on one side of the spline to locate in to a notch in the wiper arm, so I can't put it in any other position. Am I missing something?
The tongue is a retainer and doesn't need to fit in a specific groove. You can still move it to any spline.
There are also adjustments on the arm of early wiper arms that should take care of your issue. Look for a screw mounted in the arm where the thin part meets the wider part. I'm not sure what year they dropped the adjusting screw.

My wiper door does not shut at the right time the wipers are shut off… that doesn’t sound right......... when you turn on the wipers the door opens and the wipers go on however when you shut them off the door just closes at the wrong time… door just closes on top of the arms…..
Does anybody know what I’m saying??

Yep......the vacuum switch or valve under the right wiper arm is supposed to prevent that.

Sorry, didn't realize they were like that, I was going by my 67 Chevelle's, they can go on any direction you want. Probably due to the inter-meshing of them, slot is for proper alignment (DUH!!!)
There might be slop, slippage in your splined piece on the shaft, looking at the pic above they look like 2 separate pieces notched to each other.

I had problems with my wiper blades clashing and spent a WHOLE bunch of time & money trying to get them right. I finally gave up and just put a 1" shorter wiper blade on the driver's side and now I don't sweat bullets if I get caught out in th rain. Just call me Bubba!!

That's an idea! Mine work great dry but add water and my drivers side hits the reveal mold. Doesn't come close dry but the water adds enough slickem- to it and it hits up at the top corner. New arms and blades and adj is pulled as close as the slotted holes will let it move?????
