Just going to get one that doesn't need as much work done to it. Thats all. I have some health problems and I just want to get one that maybe only needs paint.
I know nothing about working on them.
They sell quick around here so I'm sure I won't have much trouble selling it. Like I was asking, I wanted to know if it was legal to put that on the title and it appears I can. So that was all I really wanted to know. The next one will be taken to a pro to be looked at first. This one would be great for someone who knows how to work on them.

I bought an 82 this Sept. with documented 27K miles on it. Lots of things not working but expected considering it sat neglected for some time. 28 years can take it's toll if not properly maintained. Fortunately this one hasn't been a wallet buster and I can do the maintenance.

Geezzz, Louise !! After all this, you are going to sell it??? The car looks great! If it was actually within 500 miles, I would BUY IT..
All I can say is, another High School KID that should have gone out and bought a "Ricer" and left the Corvettes to those who appreciate them..

Good luck on your sale and to the LUCKY guy that steals this 81 for $4600. After all this, I would guess if someone had $3500 in cash, he would take it!
You do know, you will get every tire kicker, joy riding kid from your local High School, wanting to take it for a spin, then want to trade you for their 71 Ford Pinto..

It could be, but I think there is more to the story on it's way........

Curious what is the exact miles on the car now ?

Careful, a dup title was also issued on 10/12 ( from 9/15 to 10/12 ) ?
wonder if it was ALWAYS in OHIO or are we washing titles ?

I guess I gave up my trust when he mentioned he bought this
"from a guy who does restorations for living " .......

Sounds like a "Katrina Car"...

Actually, after owning my 80 for 20 years (was one of the few with a computer since it was a Calif 305) I like the 81 myself. It had the looks of the 80, with a POWER SEAT option! But, there is no way I would buy an 82 with the Cross Fire.. Nope.. There is a really low mileage 82 here in So Oregon for sale and the guy can't give it away.. It has about 50k documented miles, but it's because it didn't run most of the time
My offer still stands. Your 81 and $2500 delivered to Oregon and you can drive home in my Non Computer 79 4 Speed! Today, i picked up a very nice set of Rally wheels to replace the aluminum ones I never liked, complete with NEW tires. It was a good day on Craigs List!

The repairs you've mentioned does not dictate that the car is not showing actual mileage.
Bought My 1982 3 months ago with only 30K mileage needed 3 calipers, Y pipe, muffler, valve gasket, radiator, tail lights, trans filter and gasket, tire, the list goes on...... Tach & A/C also not working (common issue). Any car left outdoors would need the same. Don't get overwhelmed take it one issue at a time (whatever your wallet can handle). If you bought it to make $$$$ on it then, yes, sell it now.

Thanks, the seller had to go get a Duplicate title the day I bought it. The guy asked him how many miles were on the car right now. The seller told him 36,200
so that is why that is on there. As I say, the guy at the DMV and the seller are very close friends.
I would rather pay the extra money and just get one that is ready to go. I am going to stay with an 81. Vettes around here sell very fast. Seems everytime I called about one it was gone. The ad for mine had on;y been up about 20 minutes when I called about it.
I should have known something was wrong when I saw it. He has a huge garage behind his house with a lot of restored cars and there sit this one looking like it had been used for a table to stack stuff on. There is over spray on the rear window where he has been painting things. For some reason it won't come off now. I have pit 54 miles on it since I got it. It is now sitting in a friends repair shop I was thinking for the winter. Gonna get it out tomorrow and just hope I find a buyer. I am right down the street from Summit Racing so that might help. They are some of the people who looked at it and told me the miles were not right.
The fuse box harness is trash, my friend is using fuse busses to get around some of it. The wipers now work. Oh, the car was bought up in Cleveland Ohio and has always been in this state. Funny thing is he had an 87 that he bought from the same guy who had mine. It was in the garage right next to it and it looked like it just came off the show room floor. He has these old trucks from back in the 50's
and a couple model A Fords in show room shape. Just don't understand why he let this one fall apart. As I have said, I don't know much about cars and I did ask him if everything worked on it. He said it did. I guess I just trust people to much.
This is my 5th Vette and I was told about the other problems they had. Nothing major. I don't know why I waited so long to get this 81. Anyways, the miles on that car fax from 83 is the same that was on the car the day I bought it. The guy at the DMV just put down what he said to. As I say, it was not even on the computer, it was on an old index card in a box he had to go look for.
Dan, I feel your pain. The thing is my health. I have maybe 2 or 4 years left at the most. So not much time to fix everything. I just wanted to enjoy one while I could.
Thanks again for all your help. I got the answer I was looking for.

Can I ask one last question? What would be making the rear end be sitting up so high?
The right side seems to be close but the left side is way to high. The traval from the quarter panel to the tire. I could just about put my head between the spots.
It does have new rocker arms and shocks. The bushings are all dry rotted.
The steering wheel is at about 8 and 2 driving down the road and it does go straight when I took my hands off the wheel.

I found a ATM slip under the front seat along with some other papers that shows the car was in VA Beach back in 1991. Also a bunch of dirty coins from 1998, way back up under the passenger seat.
The seller said he parked it about 10 years ago. So no, it has not been sitting since 1983.

Then it is 100% not the correct miles that it had from 1983 it appears the ODO has / was / is disconnected !!

Unless of course they drove from Ohio to VA. Beach backwards

I told you there was more to the story coming !!!

Something is not coming together here:

-you've wanted a Corvette since high school but this is your 5th Corvette
-the car (1981) was parked in 1983 at 36,xxx miles and now it was parked 10 years ago.

I hate to be a pest because of your health issues but the story is so convoluted.
