Default Spark Plug Problem (pics added)

Having difficulty with a spark plugs, purchased a set of Accel wires and decided the get the same brand plugs aswell:

ACCEL 8170 - ACCEL U-Groove Performance Spark Plugs.

Summit Racing Part Number ACC-8170

According to the summit website their compatible with the engine aswell as double checking by contacting summit directly. They said it could be for the 360hp engine from 67 - 70 never heard of this engine!

The plugs that were in the car were Champion Spark Plug, RJ12YC, Copper Plus and are thinner than the Accel ones i got.

Can anyone shed some light on this please

thanks

Eoin

Thought it was a 300 hp 350. But looks like it might not be

Not sure, but can see from the size of the plugs that most from the summit website search; year model etc... would fit the 69 vette except the Accel ones because of their width

It appears to me the Summit information is wrong and you have a set of plugs you cannot use.

Put the Champions back in it.

Also forgot to say that on the back of the Accel plugs box it states they can be used on a 70 - 67 Chevrolet 350. (not too sure why they dont say 67 - 70)

Autozone also list them for the 69 vette

so a bit confused. especially since it takes two weeks to get any parts delivered ( in Ireland )

Most vendors presume that the car has the original engine with the original heads. The equivalent Accel plug for a RJ12YC is a 137, the AC Delco number would be AC44S

http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel+Spark+Pl...1/137/10002/-1

There is no need to import zoomy 'racing' plugs from the US. I'm sure your local car parts store would have Bosch or NGK equivalents if not the Champion or AC brands.

It appears that the number 8170 is a package of 8 spark plugs, but the ACCEL spark plug used in that package is 0137

The ACCEL 0137 cross references to AC Delco 44S or 45S or J11Y champion

I had a 69 350/350 4spd and ran both AC and Champion in those heat ranges and got the best results from the AC's. But now gas is different and where the car is at can make a difference so trial and error it would seem is the only way to know.

Yes, you're right. The plugs should be suitable, not sure what the OP means by 'thinner'

Hi Mike

When i said thinner in ment that the tread size is the same but the section above the thread is much wider and is too wide for the plug hole, as per pics below:

Should both of these plugs fit the 69 vette?

No pics............

And again, we have no idea what year your car is or what engine it has, and whether it's stock or modified. What are the casting number of the heads and dates?

Your pics are not showing up initially, but I did find them eventually. Try this:

I am a bit confused, because the specs on the ACCEL look to be the same as the Champion.

this is the champion, and the ACCEL is pretty much the same numbers

but it would be helpful to have more info about your engine.
