Default what are these number??

i found all these markings when i dropped the tank to get to the tank sticker (which i was able to see peeking out from the top of the tank before removing it). as you can see they appear above the tank under the rear deck portion of the body and on the structural piece above and in front of the tank. all these were completely hidden when the tank is in it's mounted position. can anyone interpret and decode the number portions (173-1-3-3/15 and on the lower line 15-78-1-15) and give a hint what the red "LQ" might mean??

i've also included a picture of the tank sticker which unfortunately has been bleached almost perfectly clean over the years. there are a couple of places on the paper where you can see that it was printed with something but it is impossible to tell exactly what. there is nothing on it that is remotely readable unfortunately.

I'm guessing parts inspection numbers. The 3/15 could be a date. Pace Car assembly began on or about 3/15/78.

LQ could be someone's initials.

assuming that they began production on 3-15, i doubt they constructed all the bodies at once with the same date code. since i can tell from the VIN number that my car was part of the earlier middle third of the run (it's in the 4300 range) assuming somewhat equal production of approx 2000 units over an approx 3 month run, 3-15 isn't the assembly date as far as i can tell.

has anyone else discovered letters like the "LQ" on my car?? it would at least lend some credence to the "someone's initials" guess.

I was not considering the 3/15 to be an assembly date; just a coincidence that it happens to be close to the beginning of PC assembly.

I have about 10 pics of similar scribbling on my Pace Car....
Where you have 'LQ', mine has "GC 3-11-2(circled)FNT"
Your '173-1-3-3/15' is a blank spot on mine.
Your '15-78-1-15' is my '3-9-78-2-2'.
My build date is 3-18-78

I'll post some of my pics if you want, just gotta load them into Photobucket.

since my VIN is in the 4300 range, i figured my build date as approx mid april. i don't have the exact date, but do have a copy of the dealer invoice. i don't remember what date might be on that (i have it stored away). it would be interesting to be able to decode these "scribblings". perhaps someone can provide some clues to it all. what is the configuration of your pace car?? mine is an original L48 automatic with gymkhana suspension and regular am/fm stereo radio option (not cb or tape options). i wonder if there is any correlation to the build configuration beyond the standard pace car options (which didn;t leave a lot of room for too many other extras, lol!
