Ran across this statement on a web site. First I've heard of this...
How do I tell a real LS6 Chevelle or LT1 Corvette? These cars can be extremely difficult to verify authenticity. We already know there are more LS6 Chevelles on the road than were ever produced. There is no way to verify the original engine placed in the vehicle from the VIN on these vehicles. This was a very bad mistake for GM. Many people have been ripped off. GM just anounced they will start releasing MSO's (manufacturers statement of origin) and build documents on 61-72 Corvettes by year end 2010 and I would guess Chevelles will soon follow.
Did someone contact Jimmy Hoffa, got him to release the build docs?
Think most Corvette people would have heard if this were true.
I think Jimmy and Elvis are on a road trip to visit ET. No cell service from what I hear.
The guy that wrote up that website is from another planet too, unless he's got a bad case of reading and comprehension skills and has really misunderstood what the NCRS is offering.

I can't imagine why GM would care.... these are 40ish year old vehicles which people have modified. Why would this be a mistake for GM? Only motivation to become involved may be to generate revenue should production records become available.
