I did somthing really stupid!!! Yesturday I was working in the engine bay. I was using some tools (you know where this is going). I had to stop to pick my son up from school. I was just about finished with what I was doing. Anywho, when I got home I buttoned up everything. Today I took it out to pick up my son from school again. I got there real early, just waiting. Somthing told me to pop the hood and take a looksee. I open the hood and I see one of my HAMMERS resting on the A/C belt and engine! Man could that have been disastrous! I drove about 9 miles with that in there. I felt real stupid reaching in there and removing it. Do I qualify for dummy of the month?
about a year ago I was helping my dad work on my sister car. and were using the 1/4 metric sockets and left a #10 snap on socket some where under the hood and went for a drive and lost it some where. it was only a 15 dollar mistake
What can I say, I'm a Harley mech. too. LOL. I was using it to tap down on the master cylinder cover. I have been getting leaks. The cover does not sit flush. Like it is a size to small. This is the second cover! So I took the rim of it and sread them out a bit. The cover was just a hair off. I finally got tired of trying to make them fit. I used the old rubber gasket and cut out the two centers, then put that on with the cover and the other gasket. Now its a tight seal and doesn't leak.

I found a set of needle nose pliers that had been left inside the engine compartment of my Dodge V-10 BY A PROFESSIONAL (not me ). They rode around in there for months !!
When I was flight instructing back in college I found a 1 in open end wrench sitting on top of the powerplant in a Cessna 152 on the preflight oil level check

I've found a few free tools left over the years by the 'pros' also. I should take my cars to the shop more often!
We took the wing tip off our 1947 Republic Seabee... Found a wooden handle screwdriver.... No telling how long it had been there... When I lived in my hangar I would walk in the mornings... Up and down the runway , found spark plugs, tools, parts... Wondered how the plane ran after take-off.... Have not found anything in the '76 ... yet ...
I just found my 5/8 box end under the hood of my Jeep from changing the oil the other week. I knew it was missing, as it's spot in the drawer was empty, but for the life of me , I couldn't find it. As I was going to check the oil, there was the wrench sitting on the radiator support. The wrench now probably has an extra several hundred miles on it, LOL.
A lady friend of mine bought a used Nissan minivan several years back and called me shortly thereafter complaining of a clunk when going over bumps. It seems the dealership she bought it from was working on the transmission when Peggy went in to look at the van; the salesman had the tech lower the vehicle so they could test drive the car. When I opened the hood I found two of the four bolts which held the engine/trans cradle in the vehicle, all of the miscellaneous hardware for the under covers, etc.; AND all the tech's tools used for the disassembly tucked in a depression in the cowl area. I installed and tightened all the hardware to spec, and the clunk disappeared. I still use the Snap-on combo wrenches and sockets that unlucky tech lost in the deal.
Hey Pete... tell me that young lady's name is not Wendy... she could be a twin to my wife of 21 years! Either way, you're a very lucky guy to have all those toys, and a beautiful woman to share them with, for sure.
