I'll add another definition to the mix- 'numbers matching' is when the number the buyer is offering matches what the seller is willing to take.
There, done.
It's definition depends on what the seller has to sell or a buyer is looking for. Any term which will translate directly into market value will have an interpretation dependent on what is being sold.
I personally think the NCRS avoids this term for good reason. IMO the NCRS system for evaluation makes more sense, not tethered to market interests...
I know what you mean, what idiots! They're almost as dumb as people who start drawing a connection between 'numbers matching' and the NCRS Flight Judging system. If they actually knew their a** from their trim tag, they'd know that the NCRS gives that specific term a very wide berth and even avoids mixing the terms 'original and 'authentic' in the same sentence, for good reason.
Seriously, since the term has no agreed meaning, as proven by this post and it's multitude of predecessors that said EXACTLY the same thing, how can anyone expect to get a straight answer?

Lighten up Francis.
OK, let's hear YOUR definitive answer that will close the topic and mean it will never be discussed again. Whoops you already did that- but not everybody agrees.
