so after digging through other sites and threads i've found my wheel size i'll go with with a flare set similar to this. 15x12 with 4.75 inch backspacing.

really looking into picking up a pre-77 sometime within 6 months. i'm falling in love
We lived in Trails South in Edmond for 11 years before I transferred here, my in laws live in Kickingbird, I know it well!! Good luck on finding "your" car!! Jeff
This is my 68 Corvette with the L88 Flares. I raced the car in the mid 70's was regional champ B production 1974,75,76. Car is still being raced today in Historic Race's. Today the car is all black and has the chopped windshield
what size wheels and tires in 15 inch with what backspacing will fill these flares up (edge of wheel sticking out to the edge
no offset trailing arms
I had 10" wide American Racing 200S mags on all 4 corners with out the off set trailing arms or any spacers. Tires were Firestone Racing and I do not remember the size

do you know your offset or backspacing? how much gap did you have ?
Gee, I always knew them as ZL-1 flares, not L-88s. Either way though, I think the ones on the car in the video appear to be custom made, or something a little different than ZL-1's. They seem to me to be a bit bigger, wider and have a different look to my eye. The ones on bimmervet's (VERY cool) old racer have the look of the true ZL-1 flares.
Stock Corvette wheels have a 3 3/4" backspacing. Without offset trailing arms, or spacers, you run the chance of interference from the parking brake cable bracket and/or the rear spring.
I crewed on the car pictured below in the early 80's. This car had ZL-1 flares on the rear (though they're a little tough to see as they washed out in this picture). We ran stock trailing arms, with the PB cable brackets removed. We were using 15x10 rear wheels with 4" back spacing and 1/2" spacers. This little off road excursion was the result of blowing out the seals in a front brake caliper.

While I agree with you that filling the flares "(edge of wheel sticking out to the edge" looks great you have to keep in mind you need room for suspension travel. If not you will end up cracking the body work when the tire rubs the fender. It is always "safer" to pick out your wheels/tires and fit the flares than the other way around. Most of the flares have to be "worked" to get nice gaps anyway. Bulging tires look great. Cracked flares not so great.

btw, first post, howdy from oklahoma
Welcome to the forum!
That video has been in my favorites for some time. The narrarative is not entirely accurate, however.... especially when they say, "The interior is in wonderful, original condition." There are a lot of modifications on that car.... and not just in the interior! Beautiful ride, though.

They were the stock backspacing. Being 3" wider than the stock 68 - 7x15" wheels they fit inside the the wheel wells perfect. Without the off set trailing arms.I bought the flares direct from GM since they were available at the time.
I had a 79 with the VBP off set trailing arms with 15 x 10" wheels and they fit in the wells without flares, and the car was lowered no problem.
