Default Tempreture switch

Got a stroked 350 that has auxillary fans. The question is why do i keep blowing out the temp switch that turns on my fans? All it is supposed to do is get to 185 degrees and form a gruond that turns on my fans. It seems that after a month of use it blows out. I know this because once i take the connector off and ground it too the frame it works.

is the switch acutally grounding the fan motors themselves?, the switch needs to just ground the coil of a relay , and the relay provides a path to ground for the motors.or supplies +12v to the motors. aftermarket switch wasnt designed to carry the load of the fans.

Correct it does have a relay and is set up properly.
When the temp switch in the manifold heats up to 185, it forms a ground and through the relay operates the fans. But for some reason i keep burning out the temp switch
Speedreed8 .....i looked at durango boys thread, my fans are hooked up right, but i am operating two fans off of one relay using a 30 amp should i use ahigher amp relay

By blowing out or burning out do you mean that it fails and does not complete the circuit?

It is possible, that the coil current of the relay you are using is a bit too high for the temperature switch, and after a number of cycles, it burns the switch contacts out. Sometimes, tandem relays are needed, a small coil current relay driven by the temperature switch that then drives a larger relay that actually closes the fan circuit.

In addition, the relay coil will have an inductive kick when the temperature switch opens. If the relay coil current is high or marginal, the repeated inductive kick and arcing as a result, will burn the temperature switch contacts. If this is the case, a capacitor and/or a diode may be needed to supress the inductive kick. Or, just go with the tandem relay set up as mentioned above and it should be fine.

Make sure to have a ground wire from the radiator to the frame or bumper bracket etc on the car. (not that it's causing your problem but....) it will stabilize the grounding circuit and give more consistant activation.
