Default trim on a 77 vette?

Working in my garage and something caught my buddys eye. Upon close inspection it appears my 77 had some sort of trim down at least the quarter panels. You can see ever so slightly where some one had filled in the holes and they are dimpled just enough to catch the eye in just the right light. Any one ever seen or heard of it before? Cause its new to me. I would like to see some pics if anyone has any. Thanks

Could have been aftermarket. Don't recall ever seeing any OEM side trim on mid 70s C3s. I have seen pics of cars that people installed either adhesive side moldings or the screw on (or rivet) type with rubber inserts. Doesn't really look that great on a Vette of that era, IMO anyway.

Is the line about 2 inches down from the fender peak, and does it follow the curve of the fender? There's a body seam there and as these cars age the factory adhesive tends to shrink, and show "shadows" on the bond line. Or perhaps there was some body repair in the past which is showing through now.

Here are a couple of pics of what Mark is explaining. If you look at my first pic of the front fender of my 77 you will see the bonding seam filled with a poly bonding adhesive, which as Mark already stated can shrink over time and become more noticeable. Perhaps this is what you are seeing ? I have since glassed mine in hoping to avoid such a situation in the future.

Before glassing the seams in.

After grinding out old adhesive and glassing in the seam.

Its not so much a seam but 6 evenly spaced holes same size as fender trim holes on any other vehicle. They are about 2 3/4 down from peak of quarter panel and follow the curve.

Sounds like maybe you are seeing where body work was done and they used screws to temporarily hold the quarter in place. Once the panel was glassed in, they removed the screws and filled the holes. What you might be seeing is where these repaired areas have sunk in over time. Definitely do not believe that you are looking at molding or trim mounting holes.

Another vote for rivet hole reveal. I suspect (as the others do) that there's a rear end collision in your car's past.
