No flame suit needed! We all like what we like, and thank goodness for that! Factory correct restos bore me to tears.....how many times can I see the "correct" paint overspray and the "correct" hose clamps?!?!? I don't even look at those type of cars anymore, I've seen the same thing hundreds and hundreds of times!!!!!
Not for me, no thanks!
I prefer to see something different and unique, on my own car, and on others. I prefer to make my car look, run, handle, ride, and brake better than it ever could in factory correct form.
These two pics are cars that belong to friends of mine, the Camaro has 18s and 20s, the Chevelle has 20s all around. I like the look, just not sure if a C3 can pull it off. I think those cars pull it off easier because the wheel openings are flattened at the top, where the C3s wheel opening frames the wheels making it look even bigger than it is.
This is my car right now
I love them all...I'll take one of each. Love pro-touring cars and stock. The one thing I'll mention is pay attention to the off set. The Chevelle beautiful as it is would look better IMO with not as much offset on the fronts. The camaro which I love...needs more offset on the rears to give it that badaxx look. The C3 bodystyle lends to the deeper dish in the back with 20's and run 18's in the front with less offset...I believe the camaro has Boss wheels and the Chevelle is runnings Coys. I run 18 & 20" Coys on my Biscayne.

Drifting
Since it's all opinion and to each his own having seen the dropped cars, stripped of some original appearance items and 19 and 20" chromed wheels I'd have to say: not my thing at all. They just don't all work together visually in an art sense for me. However, if it works for you then it's great for you.

Melting Slicks
Heres a couple more of Boss Motorsport 18" rims
Its having work done to it now and it will be dropped a inch or two.

Thanks for the pics guys.
I too like the Boss 338 rims, but they don't come in polished yet (rumor has it they are coming) and they don't come in a 4" backspace yet. (rumor has it they are also coming)
These "Old School" rims from MB wheels are nice looking, and very affordable, but don't come in polished, which is a must for me.

Like I posted earlier, I would like to go with 18s and 19s, but the rims I am looking at don't come in 19s, so it might just have to be 18s all around.

sort of ignorant how folks can come into a thread and bash a topic... seriously.... if you dont like the 18/20/custom look then dont open the thread........ you dont see the custom crowd going into the stock threads and bashing that do you......
i would also like to glad to drive next to a stock vette and see which one really stands out and gets a better reaction.....

No kidding! Why would you even open a thread about a subject you don't even like?!?! And then add your unsolicited and unwelcomed opinions!!!

Coys give you the most options I believe...sizes, offsets, cast center or polished. I put the boss wheels on this 68 wagon...needs lowering but sold it berfore I got a chance..All they offered at the time were 20's and no offset options...

They are 17" x 8" American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, with 255/50/17 tires. I just want a change, everyone and his brother has these rims on his vintage car these days! If I'm gonna change, I'm going bigger!

Obviously I'm an old dinosaur, and Im trying to recall something we did with Corvettes back in the 70's that made the old fogies back then crabby. Maybe the paint and the fender flares? They sure didn't like the headlights in the grille on the C2s. I dunno.
I just absolutely hate the big wheels and tires on the C3. The C3 is the last of the vintage looking Corvettes, and making them look like ghetto ricer blingmobiles just kills the car in my so humble opinion. The car is so obviously not made for it that its impossible for it to not look unbalanced and off. It doesnt bother me as much on the C4-C5 cars as it seem to "fit" more. But, on older cars with some vintage appeal, its cartoonish and looks like Hot Wheels.
Commence flame.

You can't open a thread without expecting someone to have an opposing opinion. It happens.
That said, I think most 16 inch look good because they don't lose so much percentage of tire vs wheel. Where they begin to look strange is when the tire becomes a rubber band. Several on here have very large wheels and yet they look good because the tire profile is still reasonably tall.
Unfortunately, getting good performance tires in 16 inch is hard to do, too. Someone was looking for 255/50-16 a few days ago and they are hard to find. 245/50-16 are still readily available, but wider are not.
That puts you into the 17 inch at least to get decent rubber.
The restoration world on all the other types of cars are killing us. Once, all the old muscle cars ran 255/60-15, 275/60-15, and so on but now they have been returned to stock appearance with the stock 7 inch wide rims and the narrow tires.
And really, there just isn't a good selection of tires in any given wheel diameter anymore.

i have z rated on my 20's.... i dont get the body sway than i did with stock rims/tires and since i lowered it a bit, it actually handles better.....
i think 18's would be a good fit for c3's... best of both worlds.... or even an 18/19 combo
