Default Wierd things under my dash...

So today I decided to do all the little things to my vette that I havent been able to do in a while, and I have found a few wierd things under my dash.

first what is this wierd push button thingy? I thought it was a kill switch but it dosnt affect anything on the car. Just hangs there on two black wires.

#1

Also, next to the headlight switch under the dash there is another wierd thing in a bracket that dosnt look stock. Anyone know what this is?
#2

And last but not least, there is the random brown wire with a connector hanging from above the steering column. What does it connect to? Could this why my tach isnt working?? I sure hope so.

Go to Doc Rebuilds site. There's wiring diagrams for each year.
It may help you sort it out.

1 could be a valet switch for an alarm

for nr 2, it is a stock bracket and trip odometer reset button

nr3 I think it's 12 brown connecting to a capacitor which is on the same bracket as the starter switch

#1 Switch could be a reset button. I had one on my TransAm. There was a short that noone could ever find in my reverse mode lights. Everytime I put the car into reverse, the fuse would blow. So the switch was installed so it would blow before the fuse. All I did was press it to reset it. Sounds crazy/stupid but it worked. #2 looks like the trip-milage button or headlight button. #3 I don't know-is there a male plug for it to plug to somewhere?

#1 could be anything.... you'll have to trace back where the wires go to.

#2 is definitely a trip reset ****.

#3 is definitely a wire that goes to a capacitor on the steering column that I believe has something to do with the radio.

I would trace that wire and make sure the alarm components are all removed. I had a car that had half of the alarm still there and one day it decided to activate and would not let the car start.

That was a BAD day, stranded and no clue what to do.

Find and fix,

Frank
