Just throwing some questions out there, all responses welcome.
I have a 79 vette vin's match and I need to put in an interior. It came white but painted ? I really wanted to keep it a stock car but fell in love with the kinda girlie white interior, my husband said it was my choice , as we plan on owning a few more, no objections there!
I want a town car to drive, and it is/was stunning with white. Will be awesome in leather. I am to assume this will be a custom order, will my car and new interior still be classed as a vintage/stock, and will I have to pay duty when the interior comes across the border? Would it be better to try and buy the panels and seat foams and upholster it in Canada?
What does your trim tag say? 12C or 122 for original interior color? If your '79 has oyster interior it might be stock. Oyster looks white. 12C is oyster cloth; 122 is oyster leather.
12c cloth. The samples I received look to biege. If I go white leather custom will it not be still classed as a vintage? Would it make a difference if I stick to coded vette colours from a different year? Or once you deviate it is no longer a collector/ vintage. Heart is really set on white . Does this make it undesirable to resell? I guess that doesn't matter as I do not have intentions of selling. Plan on being that crazy vette lady 95 years old with the top down! (many years from now)But if I did?
Sounds like you are confusing "vintage" and "original."
A trim code of 12C let's you know your car left St. Louis with oyster cloth upholstery. If you are concerned with originality, you will want oyster cloth for the new upholstery.
If you are not concerned with originality, you can install any color you like.
Upholstery in otherwise good shape can be cleaned and dyed. Google up SEM automotive interior dye. SEM offers a quality product.

Oyster leather is a very lightly shaded off-white or bone, so I'd steer clear of sources who don't know the difference between it and beige. Upgrading from Oyster cloth to Oyster leather seats would be seen by most as an upgrade, so if you're keeping it for yourself I wouldn't worry about what a few **** purists might think. A vender should be able to answer your questions about any duties, but IMHO I'd hesitate to compromise here over them.
I have checked out some samples of interior dye, Wow, it looks great. But I think we will go leather. I believe it is painted vinyl in there right now.Yes, I have checked out a few leather samples and I am waiting for a C-2 code 65, which is suppose to be white, but kinda textured /patterned or something...If not happy with that white I will have to send my choice of material to get everything made. I do not think the dye thing will work as I need new panels , seat foams etc etc etc. I guess it won't be original, but does that still make it vintage? Oh, I guess I will have some used parts to sell soon. I need seat pans and I guess those are just painted as well? My steering column is white, was that ever available for a 1979? I don't think it was, sunvisors were painted as there is wear as well as the brake cover. I love it, I just want it pristine and new. Nothing that a million dollars can't cure, or a heck of alot of overtime.
