Default 69 Interior redo

Well, it is time to redo my interior on my 69. As I just got the EFI worked out after missing the last three (yes three) summers of top down driving here in California, I REALLY dont want this interior project dragging on.

So far I have ordered my interior kit from Wilcox which includes:
· Seat covers – black leather
· New seat foam
· New door panels - black
· New carpet – black

I have new AutoMeter gauges of which I will be trying to force 2 5/8" guauges into 2 1/8" holes (but that is a different problem).

I have read somewhere else on this forum about a spray on underlayment product (Gator-something?), should I use a spray on underlayment or a bunch of mat material?

Will I need to get the assembly manual (AIM?)?
Where do I get a assembly manual and are they available in pdf?

I need to clean up the rest of my interior while I am at it. I plan on first cleaning and dying the parking brake console and the center shifter console black.

I have read that the Sem dye products are good products to use.

· How do I clean/prep these pieces? Soap & Water

· Which of the Sem products do I use for;
o Cleaning
o Dying

· Do I just use black dye or dye & some kind of clear coat?

· Which black do I use (they seem to have more than one)

For the center shifter console trim plate;
· How do I prep it
· What should I paint it with?
· What finish should it be, flat, semi, gloss (hope not!)

Thanks, Eric

You need to use SEM Black - I prepped the pot metal for the shifter plate console with SEM Self Etching primer. I got all the info on redoing the console from the forum threads. The most tedious part was cutting painters tape with a razor knife to cover all the chrome edging and then pulling it off with tweezers. Just be careful not to go overboard with paint, several lights coats should be all you need and make sure you give it time to set-up between coats.

I even repainted the horn button - I was going to replace, but it came out pretty good. I also replaced the ugly shifter and put a Hurst OEM style shifter back in.

You shouldn't need the AIM for this job, but you should have one. All of the vendors have them - Wilcox has it as well. The PDF verson is nice, but sometimes you will need it on the garage floor next to your parts, etc.

You should look into buying the 1969 Stingray Guidebook - it's kind of like the bible for the '69. Crane's Corvette sells it. http://www.cranescorvette.com/1969_s..._guidebook.htm

There is Lizard Skin which is a heat barrier. I used some home made product using paint and micro spheres on the underside and top side, then put down Dynamat and Dynaliner.

On top of this I installed the dynaliner.

Which of the Sem's products did you use?
  • Sem Color Coat?
  • Sem Clasic Coat? (I think this is the one for leather and not hard plastic)
  • Sem Sure Coat?
  • Sem soap?
  • Sem vinyl prep?
Did you use the aerosol cans or the pint that go through a sprayer?

And which black as they have more than one black?
  • Landau Black
  • Satin Black
  • Gloss Black
  • Graphite

When you say the pot metal, do you mean the center shifter console trim plate?

I can't tell from your photos, is your shifter console trim plate painted black?

Did you spray can paint or use some Sem product on the center shifter console trim plate?

And if this was a different product than the Sem, what product and what finish (flat, semi or gloss)

BTW: your steering wheel came out great!

Thanks, Eric.

Lizard Skin is the product I was thinking of.

Is the Lizard Skin only a heat barrier and the Dynamat used for sound deadening?

Thanks, Eric.

Thanks, Eric.
They sell two spray on products. Just Google Lizard skin. Summit sells it.

I used the stuff I mixed as a heat barrier, Dynamat is a sound control and dynaliner as a heat barrier.

[QUOTE=EricU;1576370927]Which of the Sem's products did you use?

Did you use the aerosol cans or the pint that go through a sprayer?

Sem Trim Black #39143
Sem Self Etching Primer Black #39673

They're both in aerosol cans.

And which black as they have more than one black?
  • Landau Black
  • Satin Black
  • Gloss Black
  • Graphite

When you say the pot metal, do you mean the center shifter console trim plate?

Yes, the entire center console trim plate section is made of pot metal.
I can't tell from your photos, is your shifter console trim plate painted black?

Yes, the shifter console trim plate is painted black.

Did you spray can paint or use some Sem product on the center shifter console trim plate?

And if this was a different product than the Sem, what product and what finish (flat, semi or gloss)

Everything was SEM aerosol cans. I got the information on the redo from the forum and Alan71 was a big help!
BTW: your steering wheel came out great!

Thanks!

Also, you're ashtray/cig lighter sliding door is also black and you can use self-etching primer and the SEM Trim Black.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner - just finishing up on a kitchen remodel and couldn't get to the cans of SEM until I pulled all the new cabinets out of the garage.
