My 68 is all original-paint, engine, interior. The interior is gunmetal and looks pretty good for 42 years old. It does have a few splits in the vinyl on the doors and the console between the seats. Is the car more valuable as an all original or should I get the interior redone?
If it were my car and the interior was in decent shape, I'd leave it original. Gunmetal is a rare interior color (and a favorite of mine), so just another reason to keep it if you can.

Sure, leave the interior alone. But if it's 40 or so years old, it's going to go to interior heaven sometime soon. If you can find quality repro panels NOW, maybe you should buy a couple to put aside for the day your originals fail due to aging.

I had a pair of 69 headrests, that were age deteriorated, and they were in tobacco color (bought them on ebay). I wanted Al Knoch to redo them in medium bright blue for my 68. As an aside, Al said that he couldn't repro the tobacco color since to do so would cost him $10's of thousands of dollars (actually I think he said $100,000). If you love your car, and you can find quality repro panels in the correct color, I'd recommend buying a couple and storing them. Knoch did redo my head rests in medium bright blue and used factory molding equipment. I now have one of the very, very few 68 convertibles with factory looking headrests. To put headrests on my 68, I had to buy 69 seat backs with the head rest option.
