Not if you take into consideration the size, pacakaging materials, insurance etc. not to mention shipping costs have gotten crazy. I shipped a 1/18 scale diecast Corvette and it cost me $28 and that was last year.
FWIW if you have it shipped to your painter it will be less as shipping to commercial addresses is less.
With Ecklers they have in the past offered specials on shipping. Sometimes it includes a percentage off larger items, generally not as big of a percentage. When I ordered my dash and front bumper cover, I was able to take advantage of reduced shipping rates. Maybe a hood is different.
Like Pewter said, if you can have it shipped to a commercial address it can save you not just a little, but maybe quite a lot of money. It may be too late for that now.
I had a hood shipped from San Francisco, about 2000 miles away, by Greyhound bus for $60.
Yeah I had a rear deck, deck lid, springs, chrome, etc shipped greyhound for $80. I bought 2 complete seats off of ebay and tires that were shipped and didn't come anywhere near that. I think it's the "handling" price that's killing me. I was expecting around $80-100 but when I saw that price I almost choked. They were having 20% off sale so I was buying around $2000 worth of parts but when I saw the price for shipping the hood I canceled the entire order. Best part was, the email with the shipping fee for the hood also stated that it was on back order until 11/11.
They were the only company selling that particular hood. I like Wilcox and their prices are about the same as Eckler's 20% off prices on these items so I will look for the parts there. Just have to go with another style hood.
JNB, that was the truck freight rate. Or I could freight it to a business address for $20 less.
