Custom Headlights
Is anyone familiar with this headlight treatment? It doesn't look great from this angle but the idea is to have the headlight doors only open to the horizontal position.

Not mine - just thinking of alternatives for my next project. I saw another picture from a different angle and it looked much better. I am trying to figure out what kind of lights those are. I can't seem to find anything like them.
Not legal in many states, if the bother to check that, not enough height....16 or 18" is the rule....Federal min height standard,
as to that conversion above, that is what I wanted to do, but wound up hitting a deer here in Florida in '98, took out both h/l assys, busted up both doors and support frames....I went Ecklers sugar scoop trays, as being the cheepest easiest fix.....and since then used those same bulbs as above, mounted further forward on the trays, and I enclosed 1/2 the opening, the bulbs are from late camaro, junkyarded the bulbs and the mounting hardware from a couple of camaros...all the mounts are adjustable on my car, built a mounting frame from 1x2 vinyl to hold the bulbs..
the above tells me that maybe I missed out, I should make up smaller lids and mounting frames, and use a linear motor to lift both at once in the same essential design as in first post, but smaller lids....
I have seen cars with this mod, I personally do not like it because it gives the car a dopey not wide awake look...not something I want on a car that is suppose to look on the ball and mean....

ha
I agree, the car does look kinda "stoned" or "high". I'd have to see some different angles though
I would assume when GM designed the c3 flip headlight they made the size of it's cover in proportion to things like the angle of the nose, the headlights they used, and of course how wide it had to open for said headlights in trlation to where it is on the nose,
Pop open headlights never look good open, they are just a way to make a low car have legal highlights in the case of the C3 the headlights do look better open than many other cars with pop ups,
Look how much more a c4 looks frog/bug eyed
When the smaller lamps are used in this custom mod the lid need not open as wide it throws off the angles and gives the car what I called a dopey look
