I just wanted to thank everyone who replied to he frozen wheel post I posted a couple of weeks ago, I will update on the status of that wheel and other issues shortly. Also I wanted to ask about security. Currently I live in a suburb of a major South Eastern city. I have some concerns about leaving my newly inherited '69 Convertible in my own garage. Any suggestions on anti-theft, GPS tracking etc would be greatly appreciated. We plan on moving in the next 4 or 5 years to a better part of town but I need to go to sleep at night and go to work the next day knowing my baby will be secure.
Most folks I know have had good luck with Lojack. The one person I know who had his car stolen with it had it recovered in about 4 hours. Now it kind of depends on where you live and if the police have the lojack equipment on their cars.
My garage door is alarmed along with the rest if the house
You beat me to the punch! In that he/she is concerned about the car at home that is an excellent suggestion. My house and garage are wired. That affords protection not only against intrusion but also fire, smoke, carbon monoxide and medical emergency.
It is a competitive industry and a basic system is often available free for installation but subject to a monitoring contract being signed for 3-5 years. The monthly is around $25.00 here; quite reasonable and cheap insurance.
You can also add the usual kill switches, battery disconnect, car alarms, wheel boot, etc. All of these are just deterrants for the professionals who really want your car. But time is precious even for those people.
