Thank You Les good comment, thats what i will do. And I didnt realize that you were in Australia RHD and appreciate all your comments. Corvetteload that is the beauty of the static cling clear is it does not rub on paint. If they use it on 100k Zr1 its good enough for my LT1

Ventureshield and 3M are NOT static cling, they have an adhesive on the back and it is a semi permanent installation. It can be removed but cannot be reused after. the expected life on a daily driven vehicle is 5-7 years. Our weekenders will get 10-15 years life out of the film.

Had 3M on a 70 vert, my local mechanic (also body shop) damaged the nose and 3M product. To show his commitment to resolve the problem, he said he would remove the 3M and repair the fiberglass and replace the 3M. while removing the 3M he removed the paint

permanent I'd say

Actually in most cases it can be removed with a steam gun. That's what the shop used to remove it when the nose section had to be redone on my Z06 and, with patience, it peeled right off. It takes heat to release the glue but a regular heat gun is too risky for the paint. I think most window tinting shops have a steam gun. That's where I had to go for the removal and then back to my installer for the new clear bra.

I use it the other way round. I install using Steam and remove with the heat gun. You only need to warm the film and it will come off.
The removing of paint with the film is rare, either the paint was never put on properly or the removalist tore the film off without softening the adhesive.
Once had a freshly painted bonnet and had just laid the film down with the soapy solution (not squeegeed yet). Lifted it up to reposition and the paint came off in a sheet.
The guy who painted the bonnet was called in and redid it. there was a problem with the preparation and the paint had no adhesion to the panel.

I'm sure it helps to know what you're doing. My guess is that somebody here didn't and they cooked the paint on a car, hence the advice to remove it via steam. I'll bet you had a few special words to say when that fresh paint lifted off during the install! If it came off that easily it was going to be a problem soon anyway, so you basically did the car owner a favor by uncovering that.
