Well, that's a little high and mighty for me. A different motor, a Tremic 5 speed, rack and pinion steering, after market stock side pipes, and a long L88 hood-I'm not fooling any judges. If I put a 900 paint code trim tag in the door jamb, I'm filled with deceit. I can live with that.
Look at the the floors, or under the door panels. Those places usually tell you what the original color is.
BUT
I guarentee I can tell you a place where, regardless of the craftiness of the PO, there is guarenteed to be original paint. Look under the chrome trim that goes between the t-tops. I havent seen many people remove that to paint the car...

OK, no problem, but what do you gain by putting a phony/counterfeit trim tag on a car?

Phony/counterfeit to you. For me, replacing a long lost missing part, recklessly tossed away before anybody cared. My car came in a box, infact it came in alot of boxes. This is just one more part in a box.

Your response is why the OP asked the question in the first place.
It is not just one more part in a box, in some states, modification/replacement of a trim tag is a felony.
the reason I asked the question is that a guy was telling me I could not be sure what the original color was going by leftover paint.then to show him my trim tag matched the daytona yellow paint I found. To my horror I have misplaced my tag,on one of the last days at my shop my tool box fell over almost crushing my wife and could have came out hit the floor and I may have overlooked it when clearing out the shop. And to one of the other questions some colors are a lot more desirable or more rare and will be worth more money. I once had a hemi orange 69 road runner convertible with all options but the rare part of the car was the color

He could be correct. It is possible to remove all traces of the orginal color. It's a big job, time consuming, and not necessarily easy, but if an owner wanted to remove all vestiges of original color, it can be done.
Keep looking and you might find your original tag.
Well I decided to go to the master of lost and found at my house and she said she put it with the title and vin plate and pulled it from the envelope! trim ZQ4 paint 984 code k13? and code crackers out there?
Yes I did and told her how smart she was to think of doing that because I am getting old and forgetful, blind and def. ps.but those things have an advantage too like when you forget to do something?

No tag if you are going to have the car judged. You will lose points, but you won't get disqualified or banned.
Repro if that's what you want and do not intend to have the car judged.
