Default rear composite spring.

I will be purchasing 360lb rear composite spring for my 1981 vette. But witch company should I pick? TWR? VBP?? any other options?
S.
ps. On the end I will want to lower my car 1-2 inch.

Of course I vote for the TRW spring. If you are looking to go lower that will require a longer-than-stock bolt. If you call me to order I am sure I can make up a forum special for you. Let me know if you have any questions on the TRW spring.

I put in a Muskegan TRW spring in 2 seasons ago, Extreamly happy. The rear may be up about 1" higher than front, but that is fine with me. I like being able to run down wavy country roads quick and no bottoming. Muskegan was excellant to work with, very easy to install too. I suggest on buying a set of the High performance shocks also. Curious, why composit ? is your car a custom car ? I once installed one of these, in my other no match vette, it was way too stiff, extreemely bouncey & hated it.......went back to the factory steel / leaf set up.............

I already have 550lb front springs, Bilstien sport shocks (front and back), and HD sway bars (front and back). I need rear spring to match my setup.

I got all that because I want my vette to handle little bit better that what GM had to offer.

I would personally don't go the TWR way because of the height issue.

I am actually buying one from him.
Thanks.
ps. Whats wrong with TWR in relation to height issue? I will use 10" bolts.

Factory steel rides like a WW2 tank, the VBP 360 spring is on the rear of my '72 vert with Bilstein sports for years now, much improved over the KYB shocks....so you set there, just get the VBP spring....and I have 8" bolts, I have a 7/8? front bar and stock rear bar.....my car rides really well...trick is....for lowering you will need to have longer bolts maybe 10" but then you need larger wheel size so when they bounce, the spring straightens out, obviously, so pushes that bolt into the side of the tire....I have stock height and 17" wheels with 8" bolts on my VBP 360 spring.....I dunno if maybe need 18" rims for a 10" bolt.....

I have HEARD that VBP will shorten the spring on each end, allowing use of longer bolts....but you have to inquire over that....

Hi

VBP also offer low arc springs that don't put the back up higher.

I am running a TRW rear spring on a 79. I am using 10" bolts. I have 28"(ground to fender well) ride height. The tip of the spring only clears thetire wall by 1/8". What can I do to correct this?

Just finished installing my 330lb spring from CC. Looks great and rides even better. Also installed Bilstein HD shocks.

Remove the TRW spring and install a VBP. And you might ask Muskegon Brake to refund your money since they continue to sell springs with known height (over arched) problems.

I have the same problem on my vette. I am thinking about removing the spring and cutting an inch of each side to help with the clearance issue.

OR selling it and get VPB spring.

Cutting and modifying rear springs is not a good idea. It introduces a host of safety issues. Just buy a correct spring.

Why a clearance issue?

VBP gets my vote. They will also do custom length and rates for the same cost as their stock rates. Got a 390# spring with 1/2" off each end for my 496 swap.
