Default Splitting Calipers

I've removed my calipers to upgrade to the O ring kit.

Have not split them in half yet, finding it quite difficult with the calipers off the car.

Was wondering could i do any damage by bolting them back on the car and opening the bolts from there? Could I bend the caliper brackets?

Or anyone any tips on splitting them?

thanks

Once you remove the two bolts holding the halves together and pull the pad retaining pin, there should not be very much holding them together. The two halves have machined surfaces and are just butted together with a small o-ring at the cross-over port. Have they been painted over? Maybe try giving them a love tap with a rubber mallet.

An impact wrench will remove the bolts very easily.

Really the best way to do it. I've also done it with a breaker bar and the calipers in a vise but it's a lot more difficult.

If you don't have an impact, you can do them on the car, then remove and dissemble.
