Unfortunately my daughter burned her leg on the factory side exhaust on my 65 years ago. I was in the middle of the restoration and took her for a drive before I had put the sidepipe covers back on. It burned a small area on the inside of her lower right leg as she exited. Though the scar has faded over time, it is still there 17 years later. She was 9 at the time. Pretty upset with myself. She loves to tell the story though.
Never with a car, but when I was about 12 I fell while riding a moped. Had the shape of the cooling fins on my leg for about 5 years before they faded out.
Has anyone ever.. burnt an unknown member of the public ( more like they burnt themselves ) with their side pipes while parked at a shopping mall etc?
Or has a child ever gone near the shiny hot exhaust?
currently in the process of fitting a set; Just curious
Yes I had a daughter not step out far enough and touch the Hooker pipe and burn a baseball size area that left the skin attached to the side pipe. It was a bad burn and i felt horrible.......... I still need to get some heat shields.....just a lack of $$$'s. I also had it happen on a 1923T-Bucket i used to own as well.................
Years ago I was getting my 67 ready for paint. I had everything off that you could take off, interior too. I ran the car up and down the street a few times and put it back in the driveway. On exit, with shorts on, I touched the hot uncovered side exhaust pipe with my leg, and jerked it up to cut my knee on the door release stud on the drivers door.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the ride, do not exit until the ride comes to a complete stop, be aware of hot exhaust pipes and enjoy your day here at Sidepipe Corvettes...
YES.....I'm 67 and .....years ago when I was a young man burned my left leg on the side pipes getting out of my 66 ... and I "melted" a nice pair of polyester suit (whatever those things were called) pants

Skip ahead to about 2:14....and enjoy my pain...and hell yeah it made me jump! (probably why this video has so many views)
Merely a flesh wound...but only took a few seconds of contact to get this.
After this I said to myself, "Lesson learned, that won't happen again.".
One week later (after a run) I was under the hood and dropped a socket, reached under to get it, and the S.O.B. bit me again on the top of my left bicep. :o
Two weeks later, after a car show, forgot my cellphone in the vette, reached in to grab it and bit me again on the front of my left shin.
I am a recovering burnaholic and have been burn free for over 3 years now.
had about 8 people get burned on my dad 74 back in the day.... hence why i hate side pipes and they really don't belong on a vette (they screw up the body lines also)
