It's the 9,728th Corvette coupe built at St. Louis in 1977, and is powered by an L-48.

37 is Corvette coupe
L is L-48
7 iis 1977
S is St' Louis assembly plant
4 is a GM control number
09728 is the production sequence, the 9,728 Corvette built that year

So mine was the 9728th one made that year out of 46558 units... Something don't add up.... Mine has the Alarm lock on the finder and has the 76 type steering wheel,(Ugly) and everything else i've read was the first 450 77's that rolled out was the only ones with those two options that year... Can someone help me figure this out?

The alarm switch was removed from the fender, and combined with the door lock, around VIN 27,000. This was in mid March, about half way through the model year.

The 76 style, plastic 4 spoke wheel was standard on ALL 77's. Cars with optional Tilt/Tele columns got the 3 spoke leather wheel, but all straight column 77's came with the plastic "Vega" wheel. This is true for 78 and 79, also.

Where did you read that? Sounds like the author didn't know what he/she was writing about. The 4 spoke steering wheel and factory alarm were both standard equipment.

Can't remember, Someone said the first 450 77's had the alarm key on the finder and the Vega steering wheels... Might have been on another fourm or i might have been talking to one of the vendors , If I remember correctly they told me if it had the alarm key on the finder and the Vega wheel that it was the first 450 built because they moved the alarm in 77 to the door after that number. But heck they could have been wrong i guess... That's why i rely on all you guys!

BS. They knew a little about what they were trying to talk about, but not a lot.

Just an FYI, the NCRS book shows the alarm was moved from the fender to the door lock after # 23,736. '77 VINs ran from 00001 to 49213.

Mark, for $50 you can get the dealer invoice for your '77 that'll show you all options and what dealership it was sent to.

Here is an example from my 77 Mark. Mine is number 14558 and it was shipped just before Christmas, 1976. You will learn much about the car from this document.

I'll bet that the combined knowledge of folks here on the forum can help to make sense of many of the codes on here too...
Good luck Mark.

Mark, just another note on the information. If you would like to see how the shipping invoice document translates into a window sticker then here is mine on my 77 Orange, same one I posted for you on the shipment document. Again good luck with your search.

The mark up is interesting on AllC34Me's documents. GMAC charged the dealer $8006.46 for the car; sticker price was $10,204.65. Wonder if it sold above or below sticker?

Mike and Mike, I have that data too and I know I am fortunate to have so much documentation. (I have the original sales sheet, delivery sheet, inspection sheet, and more). The sales sheet says:

Cash Price $9,745.78
Sales Tax $536.02
Licence Fee $26.85
Total Price $10,308.65

So at $9,745.78 it sold for under the sticker price, but isn't it fascinating that back in 1977 Cash could get you discounts.
