Default Tank sticker question

I am somewhat new to the c3 cars. I am looking at a 69 that has never been restored just very well kept. It has been repainted & parts changed as needed etc. What is the chances that the tank sticker is still on the tank & if possible how can you find out without dropping the tank? Thanks

Tucker

Hi

I could see and even photograph mine through the gas filler by lifting the rubber boot and looking to the drivers side.
Of course no way to read it without removing the tank.

I actually reached up behind the driver side rear wheel well and could feel the paper on top of the tank. Accidentally broke a tiny corner off, so be careful. If you have less than average length arms, forget it.

Thanks, this will allow me to at least see if it is there before purchase. Maybe anyway. I would not be in a position to pull the tank & get it before final deal was made. Just thought if it was there good add a little value if ever decided to sell. Pulling the tank would not be an issue it would just allow me to clean up that area/refurbish with these item removed. I have a 4 post lift that should work well for the project. Thanks for all your help. Like always you can get your answers here.

50/50. It's been forty years and the stickers were never meant to last forever. Sadly, it's all too common not to find anything.

It could still be there and might be legible; it could be there and covered with road gook; or part of it might still be there.

Some owners have used a flashlight and have been able to peer around the fuel collar and see the sticker. You can't read it this way, but you can sometimes determine whether it's there. Others have been able to feel along the top of the tank.

I would not go to the trouble of dropping the tank just to see whether something is there -- you could do a lot of work and be very disappointed -- BUT if the tank otherwise needed to come out, keep your eyes open.

Does the seller have any original documentation for the car? The original invoice or window sticker will provide information about the car and save you having to drop the tank.

Good luck.

i could see the corner of mine when the car was up in the air (easier if the spring is removed which i also had done) with a flashlight. unfortunately, when the tank was dropped, the full build sheet was still attached to the drivers side of the tank, but age and heat had turned the ink to powder that had blow away over the years. you could see that something was printed on the page, but none of it was readable, and it was scattered on the page and probably amounted to less than 1% of the total size of the paper. nice to find it was there, totally worthless otherwise unfortunately. if you choose to pull aside the tank neck gasket, it is located on the front of the driver's side of the top of the tank. many folks have tried that method but still couldn't see it. good luck with your search

No; he has a lot of documentation from 73 on. It is not the original motor but all else is suppose to be correct. It is suppose to be a 350/350. It has an m-20 & I would like to know if it is really a 350hp car. Not a deal breaker just would like to be able to determine if it is or is not. It would be a long shot on the tank sticker I know. Who knows if it is there he may be willing to do the work for me if he wants to sell the car. He is wanting a little more than I think it is worth but if I knew it was a 350hp car I may go ahead. May anyway but that would seal the deal. Thanks

Default Borescope?

These things have become so prolific and relatively inexpensive, I don't think I would even try to seriously inspect a car today without the aide of one of these. With a good one, you can likely read the build sheet, ...if it's there.

You may even have a friend that already has one! And no you don't need a Snap-On if you're just a hobbyist doing a few inspections and some troubleshooting from time to time, but if you're serious about your tools they're as good as they get.

Some of these can record and playback, others can transmit directly to a laptop while you're inspecting. Imagine checking out a birdcage with one of these instead of crawling up under a dash with a flashlight!?

A very useful one can be purchased for under $150. Here's just a few.
